Thanks for writting about the manifesto and Pollans books. I think its important to get that information out. He and similar authors have changed the way I eat and cook, sparked a renewed interest in the environment. My “supermarket” has been replaced by the local farmers market for fruits and vegetables and a drop off site for meat and dairy from an organic grass raised farm. I cook and prepare almsot everything my family eats. It does involve more work but its worth it and good exercise. I think I cured my sons ADD, if he ever had it.

Agree with you about Obama’s speech — he artfully declared the “public option” expendable, when that was (in my view) the necessary minimum for real reform. He was so artful that people at a pro “public option” rally today could be persuaded to cheer about Obama’s speech. #obamadisappointsagain.

Please explain what single-payer health care means? If it means we all only have government issued insurance, I don’t think the majority of U.S. citizens approve.

Van Hollen is where he’s always been. Keeping his head down waiting to see which way the winds will blow. It’s now 8/25 and he still doesn’t have the guts to have a town meeting, or explain why. That all ok though because it give us another issue with which to beat him over the head with when things get serious about the 2010 elections.

I was astounded (though should I really be surprised?!?) when I saw Van Hollen wasn’t a single payer co-sponsor in either of the two recent years when he could have been. Here’s the email note i sent to him about a month ago:

Please support HR 676. It will take the leadership in the house and senate to change their obstructionist positions so that we can get single-payer health care enacted. I count you as one of the leaders. And, currently, as one of the obstructionists. Don’t bow to the financial power of insurance and pharma lobbies. They will support a republican with the same positions just as much.

As i see it you are not co-sponsoring this bill, nor did you co-sponsor it in 2007. This is a disgrace – especially for MD district 8. Not to mention it’s detrimental effect on the state of health care in our nation.
